    I have read 9 of your books from amazon and have loved every one.

    But ... “Decimate” is not a synonym for destroy.

    “Decimate” means to reduce bu 1/10th.

    Just as halved means to reduce by 1/2.

    If a force of 100 is decimated, 10 are killed and 90 survive.

    You are absolutely right -- "decimate" historically did mean to reduce by 1/10th as derived from Latin and used to describe the punishment for a a group of soldiers. However, I was using it in the modern context, which can be used used as a synonym for destroy and annihilate. Or, at least, according to Merriam-Webster: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/the-original-definition-of-decimate
